Bye Bye Bott

Many of you know Courtney, once Culpepper, now Chercka. I prefer to call her "Bott". It is a term she created many years back and has stuck with us to this day. I almost always call her "Bott", and she too insists on calling me "Bott" as well. "Bott" can be used in various other ways. Some examples... While surfing: "Hey Bott, that wave I just caught was pretty bott." Getting dressed for an event: "Bott, I love you, but that outfit is totally bott." It is commonly used to describe something heinous, putrid, or rancid. Anyhow, I just wanted to be sure you understood what the title of this post means. Two days ago many of us had to say goodbye to our dear friend Courtney and her delightful husband Simon as they departed from the great state of North Carolina to head back to the land of castles, manors, bicycles, pastries and a different language. Where could this be? One hint: this fairy tale country bakes some delicious buttery cookies and sells them in dainty little tins at Christmas. For those of you who guessed Denmark, you are correct. Simon, Courtney's talented photographer and one heck of a soccer player husband, is from Denmark. They met and fell in love in Colorado at "Youth with a Mission" (a Christian outreach program) several years back, and once they finally married, she packed her bags and set off on another new adventure. She has been working in a Danish cookie factory since they were married a year and a half ago... JUST KIDDING. No, she really has been living there for a year and a half, and blesses all of us OBXers with her presence every eight months or so. I said all that to say this, after six great weeks of family and friend events, surfing, watching movies, and eating chocolate with the lovely Cherckas, it's safe to say that they will be greatly missed.
